Congratulations to Dr. Tajma Cameron, who is the first author of a chapter in the forthcoming edited book, Exploring Educational and Developmental Experiences of Girls of Color: Girlhood Reimagined, from Emerald Publishing.

Her chapter, “Navigating Resilience: Young Black Girls’ Journeys through Black Girls STEAMing Through Dance (BGSD) During the COVID-19 Pandemic,” highlights the experiences and resilience of young Black girls who participated in BGSD during the pandemic. This important scholarship centers the strengths, experiences, and voices of Black girls and girls of Color.

The book will be published as an open access text and is now available to read online at no cost. The hardcopy edition will be released on November 18.

Per Dr. Cameron, “Being part of this work has been a meaningful opportunity to highlight the resilience, creativity, and brilliance of young Black girls. Our chapter explores how Black Girls STEAMing Through Dance (BGSD) created space for young Black girls to navigate the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic through dance, STEAM, community, and self-expression. It is my hope that this work contributes to a broader understanding of the importance of affirming spaces that center girls of color, honor their lived experiences, and nurture their strengths, voices, and possibilities.”

Congratulations, Dr. Cameron, on this meaningful contribution and for continuing to advance scholarship that recognizes the experiences and brilliance of Black girls!
